Q1. Two equal charges +q are fixed at A and B. A charge -Q is placed at midpoint. Find condition for stable equilibrium along perpendicular bisector.

Solution: Along perpendicular bisector, forces from +q charges have vertical components restoring if displacement is small. Potential energy analysis gives stability when second derivative of potential energy is positive.

Answer: Stable along perpendicular bisector but unstable along line AB.

Q2. A conducting sphere is given charge Q. What is electric field inside and on surface?

Solution: In electrostatic equilibrium, charge resides on outer surface. Field inside conductor is zero. Just outside surface, E = σ/ε₀.
