gauss law meaning

Gauss Law Meaning: Gauss’s Law is one of the most important laws of electrostatics. It states that the total electric flux passing through any closed surface is equal to the net charge enclosed inside that surface divided by the permittivity of free space. Gauss Law is widely used to calculate electric fields due to conducting spheres, non-conducting solid spheres, spherical shells, infinite line charges and infinite plane sheets. This chapter is extremely important for CBSE Class 12 Physics, NEET, JEE Main and JEE Advanced examinations.

Gauss Law Meaning

Gauss's Law is one of the most important laws of electrostatics. It is widely used to calculate electric fields due to conducting spheres, non-conducting solid spheres, spherical shells, infinite line charges and infinite plane sheets.

Φ = Qenclosed / ε₀
Ewire = λ / 2πε₀r
Esheet = σ / 2ε₀
Electric flux through Gaussian surfaces A central positive charge with electric field lines crossing spherical, cylindrical and cube-like Gaussian surfaces. +q Closed Gaussian Surface
Total flux depends on enclosed charge, not the shape of the closed surface. Φ = q/ε₀ for charge q inside the surface.
